DIY: OnGuard Hand Cleansing Spray

I feel like I was just picking my kids up for their last day of school, and now their first day of school is quickly approaching. We were getting my oldest son’s back to school supplies this past weekend, and do you know what was on the list? Hand gels. Yikes. Most traditional hand cleaning gels have ingredients like alcohols, synthetic fragrances, and other chemicals I’d like my young kiddos to avoid.

We have stopped using conventional hand gels the past couple of years, and now we just make our our hand cleansing sprays using doTERRA essential oils. So I’m here today to share how you can make this easy and economical hand cleansing spray. The great thing is, this spray also doubles as a throat soothing spray if you have a sore throat.

*For the record, I bought the hand gels because his classroom shares community supplies, but I’ll be sending a hand cleansing spray for him in his lunchbox so he can use it before lunch. Sometimes, the situation isn’t perfect, but we do what we can.*

doTERRA OnGuard Hand Cleansing Spray

Ingredients:

1 (2 ounce) glass or stainless steel spray bottle

10 drops of doTERRA OnGuard essential oil

1 squirt of doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil

Water

Directions:

1. Place the drops of OnGuard in the spray bottle.

2. Add the Fractionated Coconut Oil.

3. Top with water.

4. Put on the spray cap, and give it a good shake.

5. Enjoy! Use this to cleanse your hands, the shopping cart, tables at restaurants, airport bathrooms, and any other surface that seems a little sketchy.

Notes:

1. If you are currently out of OnGuard (this has happened to me before), you can use Melaleuca in a pinch, but OnGuard is definitely my first choice for this spray.

2. If you’re feeling fancy, you can add a squirt of witch hazel to the mix, but I normally do without unless I happen to have witch hazel on hand.

3. doTERRA doesn’t sell the empty spray bottles, but you can find them at retailers online.

Here are some great ways to use doTERRA OnGuard essential oil blend. What is your favorite way to use this oil?

Chasing My Dreams: Meeting Gary Vaynerchuk Along the Way

Two weeks ago, I met Gary Vaynerchuk. Now, I’m blogging about this for a couple of reasons: 1. I want to remember this experience for all eternity. 2. I want to challenge y’all to go out and fight for your dreams. They are worth it. You are worth it.

In order to document this experience, I need to take you back to April. The night of April 15, 2017. I had a dream I was sitting in a business meeting with Gary. Now I don’t remember details, because right as this dream began, I was woken up by a kicked from my 4 year old who is notorious for crawling in bed with us.

So, I thought that was kinda weird, but started getting ready for Easter service at church. I’m applying my mascara when I hear Gary offer his 30 Pitches giveaway. Basically, he offered 30 people to come to New York, pitch their business to him within a 30 second time frame, and he would provide you with feedback.

Now a lot of thoughts went through my head: I should really post about Jesus on my feed and not Gary Vaynerchuk… There’s no way I’m going to get chosen… He’s gonna have thousands of people apply… Will I even be able to afford to fly there if I did get chosen? Whatever. Screw it, I’m gonna go for it.

So I entered the contest. And then I got chosen. And then I freaked out. And then I found cheap flights (thanks SouthWest!). And then I left my 4 kids and went to New York City for the first time in my life. And then I freaked out again. And then I went to VaynerMedia. And then I freaked out again, but only on the inside while I tried playing cool on the outside. But what do I know about being cool? I spend my days with my 4 little kids, so my version of cool is singing all the lyrics to Moana. Whatever. My kids think I’m cool. I got this. Breathe.

I get to VaynerMedia, and mingled amongst the other business owners. There was such an interesting crowd: from social media consultants, to coffee roasters, a volleyball coach, and luxury soap creator. We made our way to a conference room, shaking DRock’s hand and chatting with Tyler while we waited.

 (Tyler is super tall, y’all!)

Gary called us back one by one to give him our pitch. So there I went: a stay at home mom from Texas with a heart for natural healthcare and big dreams. I gave him my 30 second pitch that roughly went like this:

“So, I’m a stay at home mom to 4 kids 6 years old and under, and today I’m pitching to you my side hustle. I’m a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and what I do is educate about natural and holistic health, and I point people in the right direction as to what essential oils would be best for them and their family. Then I help them learn how to use the product correctly, and reach their health goals.”

To which Gary responded: “Great.”

Then: LONG. AWKWARD. PAUSE.

Me: “That’s my pitch.”

Gary: “Ok, so what are you wanting from me?” Panic set in. I wasn’t prepared for this. I just thought he would spit out advice. So I responded by telling him I was just looking for advice.

He starts telling me I already know things he is going to say (which is true for anyone that’s been listening to his content for longer than a week): patience is key (which is funny because I was planning on wearing his Patience is Key shirt, but changed my mind last minute). He talked about collaborating with more people, doing 5-10-20 more people at night when I’d rather be sleeping, and he also mentioned trying out Anchor, and providing a daily podcast highlighting a different product each day. (By the way, my Anchor station is up and running, you should check it out).

We ended with a book signing and selfie. It was quick meeting, and I’ve gotten some really crazy looks when people found out I flew to NYC for a 3 minute meeting… But it was so much more than a 3 minute meeting. Not only did I meet Gary, but I got to brush shoulders with others on his team, and the culture that’s in that building is truly inspiring.

One of my favorite parts about the day was the friendships I made with the other business owners in the room. We stayed and chatted for hours, sharing stories and dreams. I told many about our desire to grow our doTERRA business to a full time income, and my family’s desire to give to our community in big and powerful ways to further the kingdom of God.

To top off the day, after a group of us went out for pizza, we walked across the street to take a photo across the street in front of graffiti wall. The words along the wall read “and maybe I had a dream about you…” I couldn’t have been more thrilled. We took a group photo, and I had a take a photo by that caption, because that’s how it all started. With a dream. I’m still chasing and working towards my dream, now go chase yours!

I’d love to encourage you as you work towards your dreams. What are some of your dreams and goals?

Clean Skin Routine

The past year I have simplified my skin care routine dramatically. When I decided to try something new, I was coming from a place of disappointment and frustration. I already wasn’t impressed on the chemicals I was using to address my skin care issues, and I felt like I was wasting money on so many products and systems. Sadly, many of our skin care products are filled with chemicals and toxic ingredients that can be harmful for our bodies. Here’s a look on my journey for a clean skin care routine.

Rewind about a year and a half ago. I was pregnant with our baby girl, and breaking out all the time. So “naturally” I turned to the grocery store, looking for a face wash that claimed to get rid of acne and promote clear skin. This was just a habit I had from my teen years when I dealt with acne so I thought it was the way to go. What I found was disappointment after disappointment.

On top of that, my skin was really dry. I found that any moisturizer I tried just left my skin feeling heavy and greasy, and I’d have to reapply the moisturizer just a couple hours later because dry spots would return to my skin. I never thought at 30 years old that I would have more skin issues than when I was 13 years old.

I continued to struggle with this even after Sarah was born. I was casually chatting with one of my sisters about it, and she mentioned that when she eliminated diary completely her acne cleared up. At this point I already wasn’t drinking milk, but decided to get rid of the cheese and yogurt too. I also added some doTERRA essential oils to my routine and ditched the typical store bought face wash.

My routine now looks like this:

*Wash my face with bar of soap (I’m not specific on this. Just any bar of soap where I know all the ingredients) once a day.

*Use (diluted) doTERRA Immortelle as my moisturizer twice a day.

*Limit my dairy intake. I still eat cheese occasionally, but instead of diary every day, it’s more like once a week.

That’s it y’all. Now I’ll go into more detail about the specific benefits of doTERRA Immortelle in my next post, but a few basic benefits are: anti-aging, fights blemishes, and combats age spots and wrinkles. It comes in a roller bottle, undiluted, but I get the most bang for my buck by diluting half of it and putting the other half in an empty roller bottle and dilute it as well. So it’s like getting 2 bottles of Immortelle for the price of one! I’ll be posting a YouTube video on this soon, so if you’d like to see the process be sure to Subscribe to my YouTube Channel: Amanda Gerber.

I highly encourage everyone to simplify their skin care routine. Even if you’re not struggling with acne or dry skin, I urge you to be aware of what you’re putting on your skin every day. When you start the process, just know that your skin may need to detox and it could take a few weeks for your skin to adjust, but your body will thank you in the long run.

I know everyone’s skin is different and responds to different things. I’d love to hear from you: How do you naturally care for your skin?

Essential Oils for Gardening: Pest Control

Confession Time: I had neglected my garden for a week, y’all. I didn’t water it, didn’t go out and give it any love for a week. When I came back to check on the progress, I found a few disappointing (but inevitable) issues. My cucumbers were not doing well. It looked totally dead, and it was covered in ants. My zucchinis were turning yellow and there were a LOT of squash bugs covering the plants. Surprisingly my tomatoes and bell peppers still looked vibrant. So, if you want to plant something hardy that doesn’t need a lot of attention, plant tomatoes and bell peppers. I knew I had to do something to address all these problems. The first thing I did was water the garden to bring some life back to it. Then I started doing some research on a natural alternative to pest control.

So, I did a quick Google search. “Essential oils for gardening pests.” Lots of results popped up. I scanned different searches and came up with a concoction based on what I had in my case. I grabbed an empty 8 ounce spray bottle and started filling it up with various doTERRA essential oils.

I went out and sprayed my garden, I used the whole bottle on my entire garden. I came back the next day pleasantly surprised. The squash bugs were completely gone and the ants in my cucumber bed had decreased. Ants are a pretty constant problem here in South Texas, so this wasn’t too surprising that they weren’t totally gone.

I’ve gone out this week and continued to lightly spray our plants every few days, and I am so pleased to have found a natural solution to my garden pest problem. Bonus: I’ve still seen ladybugs and bees happily flying about, so it still allows for the good bugs in your garden to do their thing. Are you ready for my recipe?

doTERRA Gardening Pest Control Spray

7 drops doTERRA Basil

7 drops doTERRA Eucalyptus

7 drops doTERRA Peppermint

Fill the remainder of your bottle with water.

Feel free to adjust this recipe based on your needs. If you’re seeing a lot of pests, you may want to add a few more drops of essential oil, or spray more often. You can also take additional measures of pest control, like planting marigolds or various herbs around your garden to deter pests.

I’d love to hear from you! How do you naturally provide your garden with pest control?

After Sun Spray with doTERRA Essential Oils

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter! He is risen! We had a blast at our house, and our weekend was filled with Easter festivities. It was also filled with sunshine. We went to an outdoor Easter egg hunt with lots of fun things for the kids to do like a petting zoo, train ride, and bounce house. My boys wanted to make sure they participated in every single activity there was, and by the end of the day I ended up looking like a lobster.

With summer months approaching, I wanted to make sure I made an “After Sun Spray” and kept it handy for times like this. This spray will help to soothe and cool your skin that was exposed too long to the sun. It uses oils like Lavender, Melaleuca (tea tree), and Frankincense which are wonderful at soothing skin irritations, and help to purify the skin. I’ve also added Peppermint essential oil to the mix because it really works to cool your skin.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I use doTERRA essential oils. It’s a brand I love and trust enough to use on my entire family. I highly encourage everyone to do their research and choose a brand with high standards and purity you can feel confident using on your family.

This spray can be used for all sorts of skin irritations; like overexposure to the sun, bug bites, minor burns and scrapes, and rashes. We use some version of this spray almost daily in my home. It’s so simple to make, and easy to use!

*Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. I am a mom of 4 kids who is passionate about holistic health, and I am simply sharing a recipe your family can enjoy as well. This is not meant to treat, cure, or diagnose a disease.*

Stop Waiting. Start Doing: Overcoming Fear by Taking Action

Starting something new can be scary. I’ve been wanting to start a YouTube channel for a few months now, but I’ve been too nervous to begin. I dealt with a lot of doubt and fear. I’ve gotten really good at making up excuses.

I don’t have a fancy camera to take a quality video.

I can’t think of somewhere in the house with good lighting that I can take a video without the kids jumping in it or their toys being all over the place.

I don’t know anything about editing or adding cool graphics. How do I learn about that?

What if I run out of things to talk about?

How often should I do a video? Once a day, once a week, a few times a week?

How long should my videos be? 3 minutes or 30 minutes?

I don’t wear make-up most days. Am I gonna have to do my hair and make-up every day I do a video?

What if no one likes or subscribes to my channel?

What if I fail?

Please tell me someone can relate to this! I’ve talked myself out of doing this so much, but think about it almost daily. YouTube has become my Google. When I want to learn a recipe or how to plant strawberries, I don’t go to Google anymore. I go to YouTube. So I thought to myself: Well, I have a website already with information to the public, I should start a YouTube and provide that information in video form. It just makes sense logically, it’s my doubts that get in the way.

The truth is, I am still struggling with many of those questions. I still have my doubts about the quality of the video. There is still the fact that I have no experience in graphic design, video editing, or anything other than shooting video for my kids on my iPhone… But I just decided to let that go. I don’t think I’ll be regretting starting my YouTube channel with my lack of experience. I think in the long run, I would regret not starting at all. I would regret letting my fears take over in this area of my life, and if my fear is winning in one area of my life it’s pretty much a guarantee it’s winning in another area.

 <– A monumental moment!

So, how do you overcome your fear? By taking action… Go write that book, go shoot your vlog, go take those dance lessons. Whatever you’ve been waiting to start: Stop waiting. Start doing.

How about it? What are you going to start today?

P.S. I’d be so grateful if you’d go and check out my video an future videos. My channel is my name, Amanda Gerber. This first video is called: Amanda Gerber: Introduction Video and doTERRA Essential Oil Tips.

Soothe and Support Muscles with doTERRA

One thing I’m really passionate about is education. I love all things about it: the research, the collaboration research, and the execution of the research. I think that’s why I love teaching about doTERRA essential oils every week. Something that I’ve started doing with my team is a weekly Facebook Live video covering a different topic. This week was soothing and supporting your muscles with doTERRA. I thought it would be fun if I shared my weekly topic with you guys too! Now, this won’t be nearly as in depth as my videos, as they are usually around 20-30 minutes long, but you’ll still benefit from it. Let’s chat oils!

But first! Disclaimer: I am not a healthcare professional. I’m a mom who loves research and has seen many benefits from these essential oils. I’m simply sharing with you how your family can benefit as well. This information is not meant to treat, diagnose, or replace medical advise.

Something I always start with before ever diving into doTERRA products is to make sure you’re giving your body a good foundation. What does that mean exactly? Get an adequate amount of sleep (this varies from person to person), drink plenty of water (half your body weight in ounces), and eat a healthy variety of food (vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, ancient grains, etc). Set that healthy foundation for yourself!

Got that covered? Want to know what else you can do for your body to help soothe those aches and pains? Well, let me tell ya!

Lifelong Vitality Pack (LLV): This product is my answer for almost every health concern someone asks me about: Sleep support? LLV. Uplift energy level? LLV. Emotional balance? LLV. Immune support? LLV. What exactly is the LLV? In a nutshell: it’s all natural, whole food supplements containing vitamins, minerals, and omegas… Basically it’s life changing, and I’m not exaggerating. I’ll be doing a post on this soon because it deserves a post and you deserve to know about it.

Deep Blue (Soothing Blend): Y’all I’m not an essential oil expert. I have a book that’s the expert at telling me what products to use, and this book tells me that doTERRA Deep Blue is one of the top oils to be used with any sort of pain related issue from headaches to muscles to joints. Deep Blue is a blend of Wintergreen, Camphor Bark, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum, and Osmanthus oil. This oil can be applied neat (without dilution), but if you know your skin is sensitive to peppermint or wintergreen, you probably want to dilute as you put on the area of concern. You can use this oil as needed, but definitely before and after workouts to help with post workout soreness. I love using this after yoga!

P.S. There’s a promo for a FREE Deep Blue Rub and Deep Blue Touch Roller THIS MONTH ONLY. Let me know if you’d like more info!

Lavender: Lavender is an oil that everyone should have in their homes. It’s a very universal oil, meaning it can be used for practically anything: immune support, mood support, sleep support, you name it! It can be used topically, internally, and aromatically. (Please note: I only recommend doTERRA essential oils. Yes, I sell these oils, but I used the product for over a year before ever diving in the business and it was the one brand I trusted at that time as well.) Lavender oil is great for soreness and can be used topically on the area of concern. For most people, you can use this oil “neat,” meaning without dilution.

Lemongrass: Lemongrass is such an interesting oil. It always surprises me in its uses! This oil can ease joint discomfort, and should be used topically for that purpose. Now, some people are sensitive to lemongrass (like my hubs who won’t let me forget the time I didn’t dilute it for him), so dilute accordingly. You can use this as needed, multiple times a day on the area of concern. The cool thing about lemongrass is that you can also clean with it, diffuse it to purify the air, and even use it for a natural bug repellent.

Marjoram: This oil is wonderful to use before and after workouts. It’s commonly used to soothe those discomforts related to muscles and joints. Marjoram can also be used to promote a healthy cardiovascular system and a healthy immune system. doTERRA Marjoram oil can be used internally, in a diffuser to take advantage of its natural calming properties, or topically. You can dilute with fractionated coconut oil for any skin sensitivities, and apply directly on the pain.

Sharing is caring! What natural solutions have you found effective and soothing and supporting your muscles?
